Reflection Room 3

Reflection Room 3 was built with the help of students and teachers at Lyceum Jacques le Caron for the Arts Biennale of Arras (France) in the spring of 2024, where it stood on the public square of Wetz d’Amain. It had the approximate size of 480x215x250cm (lxwxh). The making process was exhibited alongside the model at the nearby Hotel de Guînes. The ground structure traced a simplified outline of the city at present as seen from above, while the vertical structure resembled the underground city.

The wooden structure was covered with a collaged blanket of recycled plastic sheets on the exterior, protecting the sculpture and its visitors from the last winter weather. So did the woollen entrance, besides the damping of street noise. Having played an important role in the city’s history for the making of the famous Arras tapestries, the wool also connected the location of Reflection Room 3 to the locations of the previous Reflection Rooms through trading history. Passed the entrance, sawdust and shredded wood covered the floor of the fabric-lined interior. Charcoal sticks, made out of fallen twigs from local trees, were sticking out from a pocket in the back side.

Reflection Room 3 was well visited by all ages; their drawings were exhibited this autumn during the Leipzig Open Studios event, organised by Kunstverein Ars Avanti.
